Kishus trace their roots to southern China as early as the 700s, where they were cultivated for centuries and reserved for emperors and nobility. They made their way to Japan over a thousand years ago, eventually becoming a cherished specialty of the historic Kishu Domain, becoming one of Tokyo’s most beloved citrus fruits.
Kishus arrived in California in the early 1900s, but their petite size kept them a well-kept secret for decades. It wasn’t until the late 1990s that chefs, farmers market shoppers, and citrus aficionados began to recognize their intense flavor and premium potential.
Today, Mulholland Citrus continues the Kishu’s royal legacy — a once-rare treasure, now ready for everyone’s snack bowl.
